The purpose of this code of conduct is to ensure uniformity of personal and professional standards, to build market confidence in the ACEA membership as offering a recognisably high standard of energy assessment and reporting, and to ensure that no member acts in such a way as to devalue or defame the ACEA brand. 

ACEA means the Association of Commercial Energy Assessors Ltd and is hereinafter referred to as ‘the Association’

1) Personal and Professional Standards

a) Only registered members of the Association may use the logo and branded products of the Association. These are not transferable to non- members and are protected by copyright.
b) Members shall comply with all points of this Code of Conduct except where they conflict with the rules of a recognised Accreditation Scheme whereupon the rules of the Accreditation Scheme shall prevail.
c) Members shall act at all times with integrity, honesty, transparency and trustworthiness
d) Members shall ensure their professional skills and knowledge are up to date
e) Members shall deport themselves at all times with professionalism and courtesy.
f) Members shall present themselves to a high level of dress and personal grooming commensurate with the highest professional standards.
g) Members shall offer fees that are in line with local market rates and shall not seek to make unjust profit beyond that which is reasonable for the higher standard of presentation and assesment which the Association embodies and promotes.
h) Members shall further agree to offer fees which are in line with the general aims of the Association in respect of promoting Commercial Energy Assessment as a viable career option.
i) Members shall be fair and impartial at all times, and deal with all persons with respect, and free from prejudice of any kind
j) Members shall seek to promote the Association as representing the highest professional standards, to all parties with
whom they have professional contact, in order to build the image and brand recognition of the Association to the mutual
long term benefit of all members.
k) Members shall conduct all EPC and DEC commissions derived directly or indirectly as a result of their membership of the
Association, under the terms of their membership of the Association and this code of conduct
l) No member shall ascribe statements or opinions as being representative of the Association without the written consent of
the Association.
 

2) Marketing and Branded Materials

a) Members shall be entitled by the Association to use the logo, and other branded materials produced by the Association in their own marketing materials, websites etc
b) Members shall not alter or amend the logo or other branded materials except where expressly authorised by an officer of the Association in writing or where such materials are specifically designed to be amended by the user.
 

3) Complaints Against Members

a) The Association shall market itself and the services of members in a way so as to build and maintain the brand as reflecting the highest industry standards, to the benefit of its members.
b) Complaints received by the Association shall be investigated by officers of the Association and members shall agree to be bound by the decision of the Association.
c) Members agree in principle to abide by any reasonable request made by the Association in respect of carrying out suitable remedial action towards any genuine complainant with the object of maintaining the brand and image of the Association.
d) Members in serious or persistent breach of this code of conduct may be suspended or barred from membership of the Association and be removed from its website and allied promotional or marketing materials.
 

4) Provision of Information

a) Members shall use their best endeavours to provide all enquirers or clients with full information about the service standards to be expected from a member of the Association
b) Members shall issue supporting information to all clients to whom an EPC or DEC is provided in line with the standards of, and formats made available by, the Association
c) In line with the spirit of the EPBD, all clients of the member shall receive an ACEA branded Energy Report at the same time as they receive the official documents required by law. This Energy Report shall contain the following elements:-
i) A précis of the building in question which should include general construction details, insulation levels, HVAC  provision and lighting information in order to provide context for recommendations
ii) A list of all the recommendations generated by the SBEM software and judged to be applicable by the assessor
iii) A plain English explanation of all such recommendations with specific reference(s) to the building in question where applicable
iv) Other energy saving suggestions/observations as the assessor may deem reasonable and relevant which in the opinion of the assessor are cost effective and likely to lead to a reduction in energy consumption.
v) Standard caveats which may be supplied to the member from time to time by the Association.
 

5) Service Standards for Enquirers of the Association

a) All leads, enquiries or requests for information passed to the member by the Association, whether by telephone, e-mail or other form of communication shall be acknowledged to the enquirer within a maximum of 48 hours of receipt by the member.
b) Members shall use their best endeavours to ensure that any further timescales or deadlines agreed between the member and the enquirer subsequently are met.
c) Members shall inform the enquirer of any reason why such timescales or deadlines are not met or likely to be met as soon as is reasonably practical.
d) All enquiries received by the member which for any reason are not able to be met by the member shall be either passed back to the Association for re-allocation to an alternative member or passed to another member of the Association directly.
e) Members shall treat as confidential all enquiries passed to them by the Association and shall use their best endeavours to protect the confidentiality of the enquirer.
f) Where members issue quotations for work, any subsequent necessary variation in fees shall be notified to the enquirer prior to additional costs being incurred and agreement reached with the enquirer prior to the issuing of an invoice or fee note for an amount over and above the original quotation.
g) All energy assessments carried out by the member shall be to the highest standards and all reasonable effort shall be made to ensure that such assessments are complete, comprehensive and accurate.
